Snoring can not only disturb the sleep of those affected, but can also affect their health and even their relationship. Snoring splints are a proven and yet relatively unknown method of combating snoring. They are used for one of the most common causes of snoring: basic tongue snoring.
Snoring splints, also known as anti-snoring splints or mandibular advancement splints, are custom-made mouthpieces that are worn during sleep. The main function of the snoring splints is to position the lower jaw slightly forward. This widens the throat and prevents the soft tissues in the throat and pharynx area from blocking the airways during sleep and thus causing snoring.
Improving sleep: By aligning the jaw position and stabilizing the palate, airflow is facilitated, which can significantly improve sleep quality.
Reducing breathing interruptions in sleep apnoea: Snoring splints can help to minimize breathing interruptions by keeping the airway open and thus reducing the need for irritating breathing masks.
Customization and comfort: Snore guards are often customizable to ensure an optimal fit and maximum comfort. As a result, they are not disturbing during sleep and can be worn discreetly.
Non-invasive: Unlike some other snoring treatments, a sleep splint is non-invasive and does not require surgery or medication. It is a safe and gentle option for the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea.
Easy to use: A snore guard is simple to use and requires no complicated setup or maintenance. It only needs to be cleaned regularly to ensure hygienic use.
The costs for snoring splints can be covered by health insurance under certain circumstances. If you snore, you should always consult an ENT specialist or sleep specialist first. If the doctor diagnoses sleep apnea, i.e. breathing interruptions, and thus a necessity, the statutory health insurance company may cover the costs. Otherwise you will have to bear the costs yourself.
If your ENT specialist has diagnosed you with tongue snoring, we will first take a 3D scan of your teeth. We use this digital impression to create the splints.
The snoring splints are made of transparent plastic. They are removable and easy to clean: you simply put them in before going to bed and take them out again in the morning.
As they are individually fitted, they are very comfortable to wear and generally do not disturb sleep. After a short familiarization phase, you and your partner will soon notice the positive changes.
Unfortunately, the splints only treat the symptom and are not able to eliminate the cause. Therefore, you will probably have to use the splints for the rest of your life.
From time to time we check the correct fit of the rails. Simply come to the practice with the protrusion splints.
